Naomi J. Ross, 80, of Marlette, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born March 1, 1934 in Keota, Iowa to Marguerite (Fausett) and Andrew Helming. She spent most of her childhood in Harrison, Michigan before moving to Marlette, Michigan as a teenager. She married Norman Ross on March 16, 1951 and together they farmed, raised their family, and retired in the Marlette area. She was an avid reader, loved doing jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, the outdoors, watching sports and was proud of her Chocktaw Indian heritage and most of all, her family. She is survived by her husband Norman of 63 years of Marlette; children Andy (Linda) Ross of Marlette, Mary (Bob) Dettwiler of Traverse City, Melvin (Sylvia) Ross of Marlette, Rex (Jane) Ross of Marlette, Janet (John) Bloor of Marlette, Nancy (Randy) Foster of Marlette, Melanie (Alice Ashmore) Ross of Clio, Rose (Jim) Gomes of Marlette, sisters Bonnie Northrup of Croswell, and Esther Joyner Portsmouth, Virginia, 21 Grandchildren and 35 Great Grandchildren, special family friend Dan Tracy and many special nieces and nephews. Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Jill Morell and sister Betty Wilcox. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City, Michigan. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Marlette First Presbyterian Church, 6590 W. Marlette St., Marlette, Michigan 48453, with Pastor Chris Wolf officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 12 noon unitil 1PM the time of memorial service at Marlette First Presbyterian Church.
