Evelyn L. Smith, Caro

Evelyn L. Smith of Caro, age 98, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 at the’s Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. She was born January 18, 1917 in New Scotland, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Wigle) Willson. Evelyn was united in marriage with Millard Smith on May 1, 1937, and he preceded her in death on November 23, 2006. Evelyn and Millard, along with their three sons, immigrated to the United States in the late 1950s. She was employed as a nurse’s aide at Hills & Dales General Hospital in Cass City until her retirement in 1978. Evelyn and her husband enjoyed winters in Florida until they were no longer able to make the trip. Evelyn is survived by two sons, Roger and Ebbe Smith of Lapeer, Murray Smith of McCleary, Washington; daughter-in-law, Beverly Smith of Caro; six grandchildren, Brian and Roxanne Smith of Caro, Judy Smith of Caro, Sheryl Childers of Caro, Chad Smith and wife, Christine Jakab, of Chicago, Illinois, Jill and Rich Priestley of Ann Arbor, Mark Smith of Tacoma, Washington; six great-grandchildren, Kayla Childers of Saginaw, Kent and Sharayah Childers of Lufton, Texas, Alyssa Smith of Muskegon, Zachary Smith of Muskegon, Gabriel Priestley of Ann Arbor, Natalie Priestley of Ann Arbor; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Ross; and brothers and sisters, Gordon, Arthur, Maurice, Maxwell, Fred, Harold and Donald Willson, Roxanna McQuarrie, Dorothy Rose, Marie Brock and Maxine Jacques, all of Ontario, Canada. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Bruce Lawton officiating. Burial followed at Almer Township Cemetery. Friends were received at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Lapeer Free Methodist Church. The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home of Caro.
