Irene F. (Phillips) Taylor of Mason Michigan, formerly of the Vassar and Millington areas, passed away late Tuesday afternoon July 21, 2015 while at the Eaton Community Palliative Care Hospice in Charlotte, Michigan. Irene was 86. Irene was born on August 2, 1928 in Manton, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Nellie (Konch) Phillips. In 1948 in Indiana, Irene married Jackson Taylor Sr. Together she and Jackson celebrated 29 years of marriage before his passing in 1977. While living in Millington, Irene and Jack Sr. owned and operated “Irene’s Market” for 15 years. Irene was known for some of the best produce in the area. After selling the market and after Jack’s death, Irene moved to Vassar. While in Vassar, she became a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, where she was once active with the Altar Society and the Ladies Sewing Circle. Irene eventually moved to Mason, Michigan and moved in with her sister, Ilene. As Irene settled in, she became a member of the United Methodist Church of Mason. She and her sister were known around Mason as “The Sisters”. She and Ilene were known for their quilt making. Together with her sister, they made over 400 quilts which they sent to the active duty troops serving overseas. Irene leaves her children: Janell and husband James Miching, Jackson and wife Sheryl Taylor Jr., Nancy and husband Mike McMasters, and special grandson Tom Taylor. Irene also leaves: 12 grandchildren, 25 great- grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, several, nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Besides her husband and parents, Irene is also preceded in death by a son, James Taylor in 2014, a grandson, Jimmy Cohoon, three brothers, Willard, Virgil, and Ralph, and two sisters, Jeanette, and Tamara. Irene’s family will receive friends at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington on Monday, July 27, 2015 beginning at 11:00 am. Funeral services for Irene will be held at 1:00 p.m. also on Monday. The burial will follow at the Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor Dwayne Bagley will deliver the funeral message, and the committal prayer at the cemetery.
