Fredrick (Fred) E. Hendrick age 85, succumbed to his fight with cancer Monday, 11 May 2015 at home with his loving family. Fred was born 3 Apr. 1930 in Caro Michigan. Fred was a graduate of Caro High School, Caro, MI., and a graduate of St. Leo’s College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude 20 Apr. 1980. Fred entered the U.S. Army originally Apr. 1947 and after his 18 month enlistment took his honorable discharge and went home. When Korea broke out & his brother was called back in, Fred re-enlisted in Oct. 1951 & remained till his retirement as 1SG of HQ Co. U.S. Army QM Center & Ft. Lee, May 1970. He spent a tour in Viet Nam 1968 to 1969. He was in Korea 13 months and upon his return to the states was assigned to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas where he met his future wife, Betty who had just re-enlisted in WAC. They married at the Post Chapel, 5 Nov. 1955 & the vows made that day remained intact until Monday, 11 May 2015. Fred was pre-deceased by an infant daughter, Lynn Marie, brother, Hazen (Jr) Hendrick, who died as a POW in N. Korea, his Mother, Judy Sybert, Step- Father,Arnold Sybert& Father, Hazen Hendrick. He is survived by his wife, Betty, two sons, David & Mark Hendrick of Prince George, Va., three granddaughters, Heather Sellers (CJ) of Aurora, CO., Samantha Pritchard (Josh) of Dinwiddie, VA., & Kristal Hedge (Billy) of Hopewell, VA. Five great grandsons, Camden Pritchard, Roland Sellers, Michael & Brandon Long, Andrew Hedge, two great-granddaughters, Riley Sage & Raven Mara Sellers, one sister, Janice Damm of Caro, MI., and two dear cousins, Robert and Don Mason of Ann Arbor, MI. along with a host of other relatives and friends. Fred was a member of The American Legion, Hopewell Memorial Post 146. He previously was Commander of J. Thompson Wyatt American Legion Post 2, Petersburg, Va; American Legion 4th District Commander; Chef de Gare’ Voiture 977, Petersburg, Va and a member of DAV Chapter 47, Petersburg, Va. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, 30 May 2015, 2:00 p.m. Hopewell Memorial American Legion Post 146, 217 East City Point Rd., Hopewell, VA.
