Nancy Ann Germain of Mayville, age 73, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Regency on the Lake in Fort Gratiot Township, Michigan, following a lingering illness. She was born January 5, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Perry A. and Elizabeth Newport-Thrasher. Nancy was united in marriage with Theodore H. Germain on December 30, 1977 in Mayville. He preceded her in death on January 19, 2014. Nancy was a graduate of Wayne State University and was a special education teacher at the Mayville Schools from 1973-2006. She attended the Mayville United Methodist Church and was an active hobbiest. Nancy is survived by three children and their spouses, Vicki & Steven Higgins of Port Huron, Jeff Germain of Arvada, Colorado, Todd & Heather Germain of Fenton; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Otis & Jan Newport of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by two brothers, Perry (Marv) Newport and Edwin Thrasher; and one sister, Joanne Coats. In keeping with Nancy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Mayville United Methodist Church in Mayville with Pastor Carole Brown officiating. Inurnment will be at the Millington Township Cemetery in Millington at 3:00 p.m. Visitation at the church on Saturday will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the donor’s favorite charity.
