Mrs. Nancy A. (Gromek) Amend of Vassar, passed away early Thursday evening December 26, 2013 while at the Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth MI, Nancy was 73. Born in Saginaw, Michigan on September 16, 1940, Nancy was the daughter of the late Edward T. & Rose (Vernot) Gromek and has been a Vassar resident most of her life. On June 2, 1962, Nancy married Leo Amend and together she and Leo have celebrated 51 years of marriage. For 17 years Nancy owned and operated the Touch of Nature adult foster living home in Caro MI. She was a past member of the Vassar Eagles Aries #2380, and a member of the Caro Moose Lodge # 1049. Nancy was also a member of the Lifeline Victory Center in Vassar. Nancy leaves her husband Leo; children, daughter and son in-law Terri & Mitchell Brinks, son Tony Amend, daughter and son in-law, Tracy & Bob Matchan, son and daughter in-law, Troy & Paula Amend, and son and daughter in-law, Ty & Michelle Amend; 13 grandchildren; two sisters and a brother in-law, Sue & Woody Reeves, and Rosalie Searles. She also leaves nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Besides her parents, Nancy was also preceded in death by a brother and sister. Hanlin Funeral Home has been assisting the Amend family. The family has honored Nancy’s request and cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the Lifeline Victory Center at 800 South State Road in Vassar on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 11:00 am until the services begin at 12:00 pm. A celebration of Nancy’s life will begin at 12:00 pm, Pastor Wally Reames will deliver the eulogy and the message. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you consider giving a gift of remembrance to the Vassar Food Pantry or the Lifeline Victory Center in Vassar.
